Code of Business Conduct & Ethics

The Code sets out the ethical framework for work at CHAM BANK, drawn from Islamic Sharia, and is signed by every employee. It is organised in four parts:

1. Source and aims — why the Code exists and what it asks of an employee's ethical awareness.
2. Fundamental rules — conscientiousness before God in private and in public; upholding what is right even against oneself; wishing others well and avoiding envy, rancour, backbiting and rumour; truthfulness in every statement and disclosure; not letting an opportunity for the bank pass through negligence; verifying the lawfulness of one's work; and performing it with trust, integrity, honesty and skill.
3. Professional conduct — respect for others; compliance with the law and the bank's own rules; conflicts of interest, with worked examples and the situations that must be declared; personal financial standing; confidentiality of bank information; software licensing; honoraria received while representing the bank; and requests for information about employees.
4. General requirements — appearance and dress; cleanliness; care of equipment and vehicles; telephone manner; personal calls; participation in community activity; a smoke-free environment; public relations; relations with colleagues; and suggestions for improvement.
